Celebration of women in business and a concentration in innovation – Grand Forks Herald

Mars is designated as the month of women’s history and International Women’s Day is March 8, a time to celebrate women’s contributions to the country and to recognize their achievements in a range of industries. One of the interesting stories I have encountered when researching visible women in history is that of the Hollywood star of the 1940s Hedy Lamarr. Although she starred in dozens of films and her image caught the cover of magazines, most people may not be aware that she was also a talented inventor. As a child, she liked to deal with the problem solving and had the curiosity of an engineer.

One of the technologies that it co-opened laid a main foundation for future communication systems, including GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It helped create a new type of connection.

Learning about its inventions has made me think about connection and innovation – how people relate to each other, how businesses use innovation to connect with other customers and companies, and how innovation runs new technologies.

Todd Domres in the Dakota Carrier Network (DCN) optical fiber provider was interviewed for the innovation part in this publication. We talked about the importance of being connected to the Internet to do almost everything these days. DCN is a partnership between 13 independent companies, broad -generation rural service (owners) and has increased since the company was formed in 1996. See the innovation article to find out how DCN and other businesses are using innovation to boost the state economy and improve products and services in the region.

Mars is also the issue in which we are proud to present our 25 annual women in business profiles. Nearly 50 qualified and experienced business leaders were nominated for recognition, so its narrowing to 25 was difficult. These professionals represent excellence in leadership, high levels of achievement, and support their communities in a number of ways. Thank you to all those who presented thoughtful nominations.

The list is made up of professionals who have extensive experience and knowledge in their industries and work in the financial sector, construction, health care, agriculture, communications, energy and more. These women are vital to their companies and support their colleagues. They are mentors who lead for example and continue to strive for perfection.

A Nominator of Molly Swanston, owner and main sales official for Swanston Equipment, wrote, “She receives tremendous pride in her business and keeps herself and her team to the highest standards of performance and ethics. As one of the most empathetic leaders with whom I had the privilege of working with her, she assures her. It possesses a deep understanding of itself, people and its business. “

About Chelsie Goss, a co -owner of four companies in Napoleon, North Dakota, one nominator wrote that she works tirelessly to ensure her businesses flourish while contributing to community projects. If there is an event in the city, Gross is directing it or volunteering in it.

We are privileged to share their stories with you and excited to meet many of these honors in our annual recognition event in September.

This month, we also have two columns invited by experts in their fields, as well as a feature in a student of MSUM Communications who will graduate this spring. Read about all this and more within this month’s business business.
